EMC news - Staff at Longfields Davidson Heights Secondary School sent out a warning to parents Friday after learning one of their students was the victim of a robbery attempt on Jan. 19.

At about 8:30 a.m., a lone teenage male was walking in the area of Gatesbury Street and Deerfox Drive when two suspects in a vehicle approached.

The men were both wearing black ski masks. The 14-year-old victim was told to get in the car and a demand was made for cash.

As the interaction between the victim and passenger took place, the driver drove along neighbouring streets. The victim was released a short time later.

Nothing was taken and there were no injuries sustained as a result of the robbery. No weapon was seen.

The two suspects are described as white, 20 to 25 years old, between 5-foot-11 and 6-foot-1 tall.

The driver was wearing a black hoodie and black jeans. The passenger wore a grey hoodie, black jeans, and white sneakers. The vehicle was described as being an older model Honda Civic.

Ottawa-Carleton District School Board spokesperson Sharlene Hunter said the school learned about the incident on Jan. 19 and sent out an automated telephone message to parents.

The school warned that parents should review road safety rules with their children and the importance of not accepting rides or invitations from strangers. It also advised children walk with a buddy and focus on getting straight to school or home.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ottawa police robbery unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5116, or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477.
